Life After Death

After losing my mom - today marks one hard month of her being gone- I’ve been watching and reading a lot about life after death, especially from both medical and spiritual perspectives. I read a ton, reading testimony after testimony, and watching many documentaries.

What amazed me was how many doctors and researchers—many of whom were atheists or skeptics at first—began studying near-death experiences and life after death, not from a religious angle, but through real medical data and thousands of personal accounts from people all around the world.  These doctors traveled the World talking to people, going over medical records and detail in testimonies - what they saw and heard. Some interviewed firsthand and some testimonies from centuries and centuries ago. And what they discovered is honestly mind-blowing.

Across cultures, ages, backgrounds—even from people who didn’t believe in God or heaven—there are consistent patterns in these experiences.  Starting from thousands of years ago. Even in the bible, 2 Corinthians 12:1–4 , there is an account of this experience.

There so many consistencies in testimony, for thousands of years from all over the World. Consistencies I believe to be too much to be coincidence.  Since modern medicine has made it more possible to bring people back after clinical death, there are more and more of these cases being studied. And most of them say the same thing:

They felt an overwhelming sense of peace, love and joy from the moment they died—like they were more alive than ever before.  They say they were “Alive and then REALLY Alive”. Being alive on Earth is nothing compared to being alive in Heaven.

So many (most) experience all the good things of their life flash before their eyes- like watching a “best moments” reel. One man was actually in an EEG machine just by chance the moment he died, only man on record to die while hooked up to an EEG and the brain activity recorded at the exact moment of death and up to 30 seconds after was unlike anything doctors knew could happen. The EEG scientifically suggests “your life does flash before your eyes” as you die.

Most say they have vision clearer, see colors and hear music that are beyond anything here on Earth—things that don’t even exist in our world. Most saw beautiful nature - trees, mountains, grassy valleys, waterfalls and beautiful landscapes ... except even more beautiful in Heaven. They felt no confusion and had an understanding they had never felt before. Everything in Heaven was better. Everything.

Most didn’t necessarily see a tunnel of light, but instead, a brilliant light all around them.  Fully embracing them. So many say they felt they were being held or hugged by Jesus. And what’s wild is that even people who were never exposed to talks of God or Heaven .... knew without doubt the light was God. They knew the hug was God. They didn’t have to be told or ask—it was instant, undeniable knowledge and love.

Almost all of them say they were greeted warmly by loved ones who looked better than ever. Some talk about meeting relatives and people they never knew on Earth..

They felt like they were the most loved and important person. And all felt this. Every one of them felt this type of love and feeling of importance. A feeling of love they’d never felt before - a love not possible on Earth.  Consistently every person said they didn’t want to leave this feeling and wanted to stay.

There were even blind people—blind from birth—who had these experiences and were able to see for the first time - .They came back and described things that had happened in the room or around their body as they died , things that there’s no way they could have known unless they’d actually been there seeing, outside their body when clinically dead. Describing things they saw on Earth, before being in heaven, in such detail that only a person with sight could do. Including a 5 year old blind at birth, coming back to life on Earth and she described things she'd never seen or even been told about in such incredible detail

Some people did experience darkness and terror at first—All of these people experienced being handled roughly and pulled at and treated badly… but they all said that when they reached out -called out to God/Jesus or accepted the hand that God offered to them or heard Gods voice offering help (which they all knew was God with no doubt), they were instantly brought into peace, love and light. Pulled out of the darkness by God and greeted with warmth and love. That part reminded me of how God’s love never forces itself, but it’s always there, waiting. And it’s up to us to accept it.

No drug, no dream, no hallucination has ever been shown to produce these kinds of vivid, super consistent, and transformative experiences—especially in people who were clinically dead. No life in their bodies- No heartbeat, no breathing. no brain function. It is impossible for there to be the number of people from all over the World. People from all walks of life- different ages, races, cultural traditions, belief systems, economic status. people who had nothing in common with each other, some centuries and centuries apart, to have the same hallucinations and feelings.  It’s just no way it’s all hallucination. Even doctors who were sure it had to be “just the brain” are now saying there’s something way more going on and it changes their life and belief in God. Doctor after doctor, doctors who had always been science and only science minded, believing in God after their research.

And after watching and reading all this, I found myself thinking last night:

“Mom, I’m so glad you’re experiencing this right now. So glad you get to feel these things forever. So glad you're pain free, have peace, love and beauty that we just can’t even imagine. It’s not you missing us—it’s us missing you. And I can’t wait to see you, be with God and feel this with you one day.”

Brilliant Light / Presence of God

Overwhelming Love / Being Fully Known

Peace Beyond Understanding

“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Beauty / Sights and Sounds Beyond Earth

1 Corinthians 2:9

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no human mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him.”

Revelation 4:1–3

John describes a vision of heaven with dazzling colors: jasper, carnelian, and a rainbow resembling an emerald encircling the throne.

Being Welcomed / Not Alone

Luke 16:22

“The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side.”

John 14:2–3

“My Father’s house has many rooms… I go to prepare a place for you… so that you also may be where I am.”

Transformed Life / More Alive Than Ever

2 Corinthians 5:1–4

“…if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God… eternal in the heavens… what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.”

Romans 8:18

“The sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”

Being Reunited with Loved Ones

1 Thessalonians 4:13–18

“Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death… we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him… And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words.”

Paul is specifically encouraging believers that death is not the end, and that we will be reunited together with our loved ones in Christ, never to be separated again.

Matthew 8:11

“I say to you that many will come from the east and the west and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.”

This shows that people retain identity and relationship in heaven—there’s a real gathering, a banquet, a reunion.

2 Samuel 12:23

“I will go to him, but he will not return to me.”

David expresses faith that he will see his child again in the life to come.

God’s Mercy in Darkness

Psalm 139:11–12

“If I say, ‘Surely the darkness will hide me…’ even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.”

Even when we feel surrounded by fear, despair, or literal darkness, God’s presence reaches us.

Psalm 23:4

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”

A classic verse, reminding us that God walks with us even through death itself.

Isaiah 42:16

“I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth.”

This beautifully reflects God’s hand reaching out in mercy—much like the stories from people who were in spiritual darkness and were offered divine rescue.

Judgment with Grace / God’s Mercy at the Final Moment

John 3:17

“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.”

Even when judgment is real, God’s intent is always redemption.

Ezekiel 33:11

“As surely as I live,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live.”

This verse reveals the heart of God—not quick to condemn, but always longing to save, even at the last second.

Luke 23:42–43

Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

Jesus responds to a dying criminal—not with condemnation, but with instant grace. One act of trust, even in the final moments, brings full welcome into heaven.
